KENYA / Chyulu Hills – Amboseli Region (Southeast Kenya)
Ol Donyo Lodge is situated on the slopes of the Chyulu Hills National Park, with exclusive access to a quarter of a million acres of one of the few remaining wilderness areas of East Africa.
The open plains, rolling Chyulu Hills and snow capped peak of Kilimanjaro invoke images of Africa as it was in the earlier part of the last century; wildlife and Maasai herdsman living as nature determined they should in this unspoiled corner of Kenya and one of the few places in East Africa where one can still view the “Big 5” mammals. Ol Donyo in Maasai means “The Spotted Hills”, and is the name given by the Maasai to the Chyulu Range which runs between Amboseli and Tsavo National Parks.
Ol Donyo has a total of 20 beds in six stand alone cottages. Two are two bedded, while others are four bedded with their own private sitting room and swimming pool. These four bedded lodges are perfect for families or small groups of friends who prefer that extra privacy and with this, at no extra cost, comes your own private game drive vehicle. Horses, night drives, authentic Maasai cultural experiences and their unique “log-jam” open-air hide at the lodge’s waterhole are all part of the fare. All bedrooms now have spacious en-suite bathrooms with superb views, a shower and bath, twin vanities, a flush toilet with an additional outdoor shower for those who prefer. All rooms have their own unique rooftop sundowner “star-beds” spot where you can enjoy dramatic views over the plains and onto Mt. Kilimanjaro. Adventurous guests have the option to sleep out on the rooftop and enjoy a night under the endless expanse of African stars.
